SBTi: Strengthening our climate strategy - Euro Pool Group

Strengthening our climate strategy with SBTi

Our new ambitious targets for 2030 sit at the heart of our next phase of climate action. We’re on track to cut emissions per rotation by 20% by 2025, and as we approach this milestone, we’re already looking ahead. Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with EPG’s divisions to develop these strengthened goals and have secured validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

What is SBTi?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a leading international standard for carbon target setting among businesses, aligning their efforts with the goals of the Paris Agreement. This initiative provides a clearly defined pathway for companies to effectively reduce their scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions. By establishing organisational SBTi targets, companies can demonstrate not only the extent to which they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions but also the urgency of these reductions. This proactive approach is essential in preventing the most severe impacts of climate change from occurring.

Euro Pool Group and it divisions EPS, LPR and Stack&Track committed to SBTi in March 2024. Our targets were validated soon after, confirming our ambition towards 2030.

Why Euro Pool Group chooses SBTi

Our sustainability strategy focuses on creating circular progress through Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. By prioritising key material topics like carbon reduction and water reuse, we aim to minimise negative impacts while maximising positive outcomes.

SBTi provides robustness, transparency and scientific basis for companies’ carbon reduction activities. Having targets validated by the SBTi aligns with our sustainability strategy by providing a framework for setting science-based carbon reduction targets, enhancing EPG’s commitment to measurable sustainability goals and fostering stakeholder engagement for long-term value creation.

Our near-term SBTi targets

This diagram shows our new, ambitious reduction targets for 2030. These near-term targets are in line with the Paris Agreement and comprise scopes 1, 2 and 3:

  • Scope 1 & 2: Targets need to be aligned with a 1,5°C pathway. For EPG, this means an absolute GHG reduction of 50.2% by 2030 (compared to 2020).
  • Scope 3: Euro Pool Group commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution 25% by 2030 (compared to 2020). The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

Our sustainability projects

Decarbonisation levers are strategic actions—such as improving energy efficiency, switching to renewable energy, optimising transport logistics, and using low-carbon materials—that help an organisation reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. For Euro Pool Group, they are vital to lowering the carbon footprint of our reusable packaging solutions, aligning with circular economy goals and meeting growing customer and regulatory demands for sustainable supply chains.
